In Memory of My Fashionista Inspiración

Cuando mi mamí me decía…

“¡Derecha!” She meant more than “stand up straight.” She meant “stand up,” “be true,” “be heard,” “be proud.” It was much more than fashionista advice, but it was the beginning of my fashionista admiration of her.

Mi mamá fue modelo pero no solo un modelo fashionista. Fue mi modelo en vida. My mother was a fashionista model on the runway in her younger days, and she was a role model for me throughout my whole life. She taught me the values of not only being a strong woman, but also of the importance of being a good, thoughtful person.

It’s been eight years now since she took her last breath. The same breath I grew up listening to as she told me her life stories. I miss her words of wisdom and cariño so much! But her words still resonate with me every single day. “¡Derecha!” “Stand up.” “Be true.” “Be heard.” “Be proud.”

One of my favorite things to do with fashion and decor is to use pieces that remind me of my Fashionista inspiración. My mother absolutely loved hummingbirds. We always had at least one hummingbird feeder at home, so that she could see her favorite birds. I have hummingbird decor at home, work and even on my jewelry. If you look carefully, you can see a hummingbird on my bracelet! The necklace and earrings I’m wearing in the photos also remind me of my mamí because she made the best hot chocolate, and of course the best way to drink chocolate caliente is in jarritos!! ¡Esos jarritos de adobe que recuerda a méxico lindo!

To remember my mom all I have to do is look down, and there she is! Surrounding me with her beauty and grace, and her recuerdos will always remind me to “Be ¡Derecha!” “Be True.” “Be Heard.” “Be Proud.”
